The Kindle Scribe Device Guide

Everything your Kindle Scribe Colorsoft does and does not do, including the parts Amazon does not document, worked out once so you do not have to spend an afternoon on it.

Your device

Two editions of one book, not two books. The same 45 pages and the same words either way; what changes is that the reader in every photograph is yours. You get the edition you pick, as a single PDF.

Why two editions

One book, and the device in it is the one you own.

The three current Scribes share a body, a chip, a pen and the software, so unlike the reMarkable line there is no separate book per model. What there is, is a book that never shows you somebody else's screen.

Same book, both ways

Forty five pages, the same words in both editions. Nothing about your device is missing from the one you pick, and the colophon says so on its own face.

Three models, one body

The Scribe without a front light, the Kindle Scribe and the Colorsoft. Chapter 2 works out which you have; chapter 14 tabulates all of them, including the 10.2 inch generation sold from 2022.

Colour is a chapter, not a book

Two resolutions on one panel, what that costs anything you design for it, and how to live with the split. In both editions, because a monochrome owner weighing an upgrade needs it too.

The honest answer on links

Nobody outside Amazon has confirmed that tapping a link on a Scribe navigates, and Amazon does not document it. Chapter 8 says that, rather than promising it, and gives the routes that do work.

What is inside

Fifteen chapters, 45 pages, one subject.

The device, not the files you put on it. Fourteen of the fifteen never mention anything we sell.

  1. 01

    Start here

A reader that also writes, and the six limits of the writing half, so nothing later reads as a fault.

  2. 02

    Which one you have

Two generations, three current models, and what yours changes about the rest of this book.

  3. 03

    The first thirty minutes

The setting that fixes the commonest regret about this device, and the four worth changing on day one.

  4. 04

    Getting your stuff on

Send to Kindle, its three routes, its two ceilings, and why neither will trouble a planner.

  5. 05

    Notebooks and documents

Two things that look alike and behave nothing alike. Most confusion on this device starts here.

  6. 06

    Writing

Ten pens, five highlighters, the shader, Quick Notes, and what the pen will not do.

  7. 07

    Reading and marking up

The half Amazon finished. Active Canvas, margins, highlights, and where your notes actually go.

  8. 08

    Templates, and the wall

The locked menu, the PDF route, the master copy loop, and the honest answer about hyperlinks.

  9. 09

    Turning ink into text

Conversion, AI search and summaries, which models have them, and the layout fault nobody warns you about.

  10. 10

    Getting work out

Email links that expire, Drive, OneDrive, OneNote, Alexa, and the route notes on a PDF are stuck behind.

  11. 11

    Colour, on the Colorsoft

Two resolutions on one panel, what that means for anything you design, and how to survive the split.

  12. 12

    Living with it

Battery, pen tips, cases, the magnet problem, and what wears out first. The dull chapter, and the one that decides whether it gets used.

  13. 13

    When it goes wrong

Six failures owners actually report, in the order worth trying them, and the one that loses work.

  14. 14

    Model and geometry appendix

Every model, both panels, the template sizes, and the pixel count Amazon does not publish.

  15. 15

    What our files do

One page, clearly labelled, about the planners this guide's publisher makes for this device.

The file

What arrives.

Format
PDF, hyperlinked, with a contents page and a page number on every page. Amazon does not document link taps on a Scribe and no owner has confirmed them, so the book is built to work by page number either way.
Pages
45, set to 1620 x 2160, which is 3:4 like both Scribe panels
Written against
Kindle software 5.19.6 and the lineup as it stood in September 2026, with the 2026 edition line on the cover. Half of this material expires, so it is dated on its face rather than pretending not to be.
Device
Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, 11 inch, 3:4, 300 ppi for ink, 150 for colour, 64 GB
Also covers
The 10.2 inch Kindle Scribe sold from 2022, and the Scribe sold without a front light. Chapter 2 works out which you have and chapter 14 tabulates them.
Delivery
Instant download after checkout, and it stays in your account.
Not affiliated
Not affiliated with Amazon.com, Inc. Kindle, Kindle Scribe and Colorsoft are their names, used for identification only, and nothing in the file is copied from their material.
Also in the bundle
Every device guide, this one included, comes with The Complete System. If you own that tier it is already in your account and there is nothing to buy here.

Two tablets in the house? The reMarkable Device Guide is the companion book to the reMarkable line, written the same way.

Questions

Before you buy.

Which file do I get?

One PDF: the edition for the reader you pick above. Both are the same 45 pages and the same words. What changes is that the device in every photograph is yours.

Does the Colorsoft edition cover more?

No, and it is important that it does not. The two editions are the same book, and the colour chapter is in both, because a monochrome owner weighing an upgrade needs it as much as a Colorsoft owner does.

Which Kindle Scribes does it cover?

All three current models, the one without a front light, the Kindle Scribe and the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, and the 10.2 inch generation sold from 2022. Chapter 2 works out which you have and chapter 14 tabulates every one of them.

Do hyperlinks work on a Kindle Scribe?

Nobody outside Amazon has confirmed that tapping a link on this device navigates, and Amazon does not document it. The book says exactly that rather than promising it, and it is built to work by page number either way. Chapter 8 has the whole answer and the routes that do work.

Is this about your planners, or about the device?

The device. Fourteen of the fifteen chapters never mention our files. The last one is a single labelled page about what we make for this reader.

I bought the edition for the wrong device.

Write in and we will swap it. There is no second purchase, and since the two editions are the same book you have not missed anything in the meantime.

How do I get it?

Instant download after checkout, and it stays in your account. Put it on the reader with Send to Kindle by any of its three routes, which is chapter 4.

I own The Complete System. Do I need this?

No. Every device guide edition comes with that tier, this one included, so it is already on your order and in your account.

Amazon documents a fraction of this device.

What is left is forum threads that contradict each other. 45 pages on the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, worked out once, with what is known separated from what nobody outside Amazon knows.
