The offer
What a Supernote open box device is
A Supernote open box device is one Ratta sells again after it has been opened, often a return, at a lower price. Supernote frames them two ways on the product pages: a discounted price, or “a fully refundable 45-day trial”. There is no separate refurbished store; open box is the second-hand route Supernote itself runs, and it lives at supernote.com/collections/open-box.
The discount on every open-box device we checked was exactly 20% off the new price. On 6 October 2026 the store listed:
| Device | Open box | New | In stock |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manta | $404.00 | $505.00 | No |
| Nomad, white | $287.20 | $359.00 | No |
| Nomad, crystal | $311.20 | $389.00 | No |
| LAMY special set | $431.20 | $539.00 | No |
The stock column is the important one. Open-box units appear as returns come back and go quickly, so treat the open-box page as something to check, not something to count on. Prices on the new devices change too: the Nomad’s new price is now $359 for white and $389 for crystal.
The catch
What you give up for 20% off
Supernote is upfront about it. Each open-box listing says to expect “minor to moderate cosmetic signs of use”, that any signs of use “will not impact performance”, and that the device “may be missing original packaging and parts (e.g. cables, spare pen loops, screwdrivers)”. It also ships within the US only.
The accessories are the line to read twice. The open-box listings promise the device, not the extras, and a missing pen or folio is a cost that eats into the 20%, so price what you would still need to buy before comparing totals. Our Supernote Nomad review and Manta review cover what each device needs to be usable on day one.
The returns
The 45-day return is the real feature
Here open box quietly beats new. Supernote’s standard policy accepts returns within 30 calendar days. The open-box return policy extends that to 45 calendar days with a full refund, “for customers at Supernote.com to have more time to trial”. For a device whose appeal is how it feels to write on for weeks, fifteen extra days is worth more than it sounds.
Open box quietly beats new: 45 days to decide instead of 30.
The return has rules, so keep what arrives. Items must go back in their original packaging with the instructions and any spare parts, the device must be factory reset, and Supernote does not provide prepaid labels, so you pay the shipping and should choose signature confirmation. Supernote says refunds generally arrive within 15 days of its inspection results. If you buy a set, return the device, pen and folio together.
The discounts
Supernote discount codes, and the official discounts
Searches for a Supernote discount code mostly lead to coupon sites. Supernote runs its own discount programs instead, and they are the reliable ones. Students get a “20 USD discount for Supernote” by verifying a valid university email. A separate program, verified through GovX, covers military (active duty and veterans), military families, first responders (fire, police, healthcare workers) and teachers (K-12 and university teachers and staff); outside the US, Supernote asks for proof of identity by email.
We do not list codes, because we cannot verify a code we have not seen work. For seasonal sales, search demand for Supernote and Black Friday jumps every November, so if you are not in a hurry and none of the programs above fits, that is the window to watch. If you are choosing between the two devices first, our Nomad vs Manta comparison will tell you which open-box listing to wait for.
Supernote open box is 20% off a device you can return for 45 days, with cosmetic wear and missing extras as the price, and stock that comes and goes. If you have bought one, tell us in the comments what condition it arrived in, because that is the one thing a listing cannot show.
